Images of the building: Photographer Stephen Hughes

Since December 2009, photographer Stephen Hughes has been documenting the development of the new Turner Contemporary gallery building through a series of photo portraits.

Hughes striking images capture the changes on site as the new building takes shape, from close-up details of the interior and stunning views out to sea, to views of the building emerging against the Margate skyline.

Born in Brighton in 1968, Stephen Hughes has photographed across Europe and the U.S, producing an evocative portrait of the areas that get left behind in the economic development and redevelopment of the suburban landscape. His work has been exhibited at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea as well as in major solo exhibitions in France, Germany and the U.S. His work has been featured in Blindspot, Portfolio, Tema Celeste and Camera Austria amongst others.
